Ekiti State University students appeal to government, calls for school fee reduction

Amid the coronavirus lockdown, which has in no small measure disrupted the nation’s economy, concerned Nigerian students (CNS), a student body, has appealed to both Federal and state Government to review the payment of tuition in their various institutions with a view to reducing it.

Convener of the group and a student of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Henry Bayonle Oyewole, who made the appeal on behalf of students, said doing so would cushion the effect of the pandemic, which has kept many parents at home for so long.

Apart from that, he said many families have lost their jobs and some are recording little or no financial success with the skeletal business activities following the gradual easing of the lockdown.

According to Oyewole, “The lockdown has in no small measure affected a lot of students and their parents, as well as guardians. We also discovered that many state institutions are paying huge amount of money as tuition and this is a burden to parents. We are appealing to the government and management of the federal and state-owned tertiary institutions to consider Nigerian students by slashing their school fee by at least 50 per cent.

“CNS is a platform that takes students welfarism to heart. Even though Nigerian students have a national body called National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), CNS was birthed to give a strong voice to all students and also stand for checks and balances to NANS, and also influence government policies on youth and students affairs.”
