UNILORIN SIWES Unit to release 5,000 Students for 2022 industrial training 

The Director of the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Unit, University of Ilorin, Prof. F. O. Nwosu, has disclosed that about 5,000 students cutting across 15 Faculties will be released to undergo the 2022 industrial training in different parts of the country.

Prof. Nwosu disclosed this last Wednesday (April 5, 2023) while speaking at the 2022 SIWES Pre-Placement Orientation Programme held at the University’s Main Auditorium.

The Director advised the students to be punctual, hardworking, and responsible at their places of work in order to justify the discipline instilled in them at the University of Ilorin.

Prof Nwosu explained that SIWES provide an avenue for students in the Nigerian universities to acquire industrial skills and experience in their respective courses of study, exposes them to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and machinery that may not be available in their institutions.

The Director noted that the programme also makes the transition from Gown to Town easy and thus, enhances students’ contacts for job placement after graduation. He added that it also enlists and strengthens employers’ involvement in the entire educational process.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. S.F. Ambali, advised students to be punctual and contribute their quota to the development of the society.

He further urged the students to always utilise any knowledge acquired during the period, as no knowledge is a waste.

On his part, the Deputy Director/Area Manager of Industrial Training Fund, Ilorin Office, Mrs Quadri Temitayo, who was represented on the occasion by the H. T, ITF Ilorin, Mr Rauf Sule, counselled student ‘to be good ambassador of the University during the training period, saying that this can be attained by ensuring total commitment and dedication as well as obeying laid down rules and regulations of employers they are attached to.

The Deputy Director, however, stressed the need for institutions to supervise their students while on attachment, noting that supervisory allowance will not be paid for unsupervised students.
