UNIPORT to graduate 13,816 students 

The University of Port Harcourt has said it will be graduating 13,816 students in its 34th Convocation slated for next Saturday.This is as the management expressed happiness that the institution now ranked 19th in Africa and 1st in Nigeria.

UNIPORT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, stated this during the institution’s 34th Convocation media briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday.Georgewill noted that many programmes of the university are being certified by international bodies, saying that more funding would ensure that other programmes have international certification.

The institution’s 9th Vice Chancellor noted that the university in the 34th convocation would graduate 13,816 students, explaining that 8,146 of them were first-degree holders.He stated, “As we prepare to celebrate our 34th Convocation Ceremony, we are delighted to announce that we are set to graduate a total 13, 816 graduands out of which 8,146 are for the award of First Degree certificates.“3,665 are for the Post Graduate Diploma, 1,528) are for Masters Degrees and 477 are for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) respectfully.Georgewill commended the Federal Government, the Rivers State Government, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals for their support in the infrastructural development of the school.He also lauded the students of the institution for maintaining peace, pointing out that since 2021 there has been no protest on campus despite some challenges.“The university is grateful to the Federal Government for the infrastructural development of the university. We also commend the students of the university for maintaining peace.“Since 2021 there has not been a demonstration in this school. I want to commend the students’ leaders for ensuring that issues are amicably resolved,” the VC said.He said the university had benefited immensely from the generous support of both federal and state governments.“These contributions have enabled it to enhance its infrastructure, expand its academic offerings, and improve the overall learning environment for students.
