Taraba State University (TSU) is on the verge of ending its prolonged strike by non-academic staff as negotiations between union representatives and the state government near completion.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Bako, shared this update with reporters on Tuesday in Jalingo.Prof. Bako revealed that productive discussions over the weekend resulted in significant progress. He noted that union leaders have been instructed to draft a communique outlining the agreements reached, which will then be presented to members for review and endorsement.In light of these developments, the university has rescheduled its suspended examinations to resume on Monday, January 27, 2025.Speaking on the current state of negotiations, Prof. Bako expressed optimism:
“We have made remarkable progress, and I am confident that the strike will soon be called off. The non-academic staff union has demonstrated commitment, and we are looking forward to resuming normal activities.”The Vice Chancellor also emphasized the importance of stability in academic calendars and praised the role of all stakeholders in advancing discussions.
Acknowledging the efforts of the state government, Prof. Bako commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his hands-on approach to resolving the crisis. He also lauded the Ministry of Tertiary Education for its tireless support in addressing the union’s demands.“The government’s intervention has been pivotal in ensuring that the issues raised by the unions are addressed in a timely and comprehensive manner,” he added.
