KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT APPROVES MONEY FOR FREE 2025 UTME REGISTRATION

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has approved over N542 million for the payment of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and other internal examination fees for students in public schools across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, disclosed this during a press conference on Tuesday in Lokoja.

According to him, the initiative is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that students in public primary and secondary schools have access to free and quality education. Jones explained that the allocated funds will cover various examination fees, ensuring that no eligible student is left behind.

The breakdown of the funds includes:

* N145,476,984 for 25,100 pupils for Basic Six and Common Entrance Examination (CCE).

* N215,220,000 for 30,500 students under the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

* N181,719,800 for 18,734 students to cover UTME/JAMB registration fees.

This brings the total amount approved for internal and external examinations to N542,416,784.Jones highlighted that this move aligns with the law mandating free examination registration for students in public schools, a policy initiated by former Governor Yahaya Bello.

He further noted that the state government had also released N661.3 million to cover the 2024/2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) students in public schools.
