The National Youth Service Corps said it has placed in place steps to ensure the country-wide 37 orientation camps operate properly as isolation centers for victims of the spreading coronavirus pandemic.
The NYSC Director-General, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, who stated this on Sunday, said the scheme in line with the Federal Government’s directive had prepared the camps as the coronavirus isolation centres.
Throughout this hour of global threat raised by the COVID-19 pandemic, the DG also commended the “unparalleled sacrifices being rendered by the medical staff of the corps, including doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and other paramedics.”
According to a statement, the NYSC DG enjoined representatives of the corps nationally to remain calm and comply with the federal and state governments ‘various health regulations and advice.
He said, “The management wishes to state that it stands resolutely in solidarity with the country especially the victims of the hydra-headed monster, as we collectively battle the deadly virus. The management appreciates the unparalleled sacrifices being made by the corps medical personnel. They have remained in their respective states of deployment, complementing the efforts of the medical teams fighting to treat the victims of the pandemic and stem the spread of the virus.
Accordingly, the management is on standby to ensure a hitch-free operation of the isolation centres which the NYSC orientation camps have been designated by the Federal Government.
“We restate our commitment to the overall welfare and safety of corps members, especially the corps medical personnel who have stood to be counted in this period of trial.
“Corps members are admonished to remain calm as they observe with the highest degree of seriousness the safety measures already highlighted by the Federal Government and the NYSC on its social media platforms.
“These primarily hinge on good sanitary habits, use of hand sanitisers, in addition to avoiding undue and indiscriminate socialisation with friends, acquaintances and mingling with the crowd all of which place one at the grave risk of infection by the airborne and highly contagious virus.”
