KWASU VC VOWS TO PRODUCE STUDENTS WHO WILL BE PROBLEM SOLVERS 

The Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi (SAN) has reiterated his commitment to producing world class students that shape the world, solve problems, and generate employment.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed this in his opening remark on Monday, 4th of May 2020 at the Kwara State University, Malete while on a familiarisation tour of the Institution.
Professor Muhammed said that all hands must be on deck to produce world class leaders from the University, stressing that no stone will be left unturned to achieve this feat: “We are going to work so hard for the next three years so that by the fourth year, KWASU will be on autopilot. The dream is to build a first class University, it is possible. My ambition is to ensure that the kind of students KWASU will produce will be problem solvers, students who will conquer COVID -19, students who will not be asking their parents for jobs, but rather to be job creators. I already have that foundation in KWASU; it is for me to build on what I met.”
The University don noted that he was eager to come down to Malete since his appointment as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the Institution but as a result of the Covid -19 lockdown, he had to follow all the health protocols and government directives which are in place to curb the spread of the disease.
He added that the lockdown had afforded him the opportunity to meet with stakeholders and to study documents relating to KWASU: “I have used the last one month to meet with stakeholders and study all the deeds and documents relating to KWASU. Indeed I believe that my predecessors have done well, they have reputed unto me a University that is ready to move on to the next level. I have met a couple of staff and one thing that I find very great is that the quality of staff is very rich, not only academic but the non-academics. My predecessors have been able to assemble a pool of very industrious, diligent, and hardworking people and I believe when you have goal-getters, the sky is your limit.
Professor Muhammed stressed that the biggest challenge presently facing KWASU is Covid -19 which has crippled a lot of sectors in the economy.
He however expressed determination to forge ahead inspite of the effects of the current pandemic to build on the solid foundation laid down by his processors: “I can assure you that the only way forward is forward, and the only way upward is upward. KWASU is not going to go below standard, we are going to build on the solid foundation we met and in the next five years, you will be proud you have me as a Vice-Chancellor”, he said.
While inspecting facilities on the campus, Professor Muhammed expressed concern at the state of some of the structures in the Institution stating that maintenance will be a top priority of his administration.
He stressed that Malete community can benefit from the University in various capacities adding that his administration will look into providing more accommodation that can be owned by staff.
Professor Muhammad described the KWASU main library as a remarkable building stressing that libraries are like museums which can benefit the Institution in numerous ways.
The Acting Register, Malam Muhammed Shuaib while welcoming the Vice-Chancellor to the Malete campus expressed appreciation to God for Professor Akanbi’s appointment.
He noted that Professor Akanbi is well equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to move the University to greater heights.
Malam shuaib stressed that he is rest assured that the school is in good hands stating that the Vice-Chancellor, since his appointment, has been making consultation and meeting with staff to strategise on ways of moving the Institution forward. He reassured the Vice-chancellor of the cooperation of all staff of KWASU.
