Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has formally admitted 4,364 students into various programs for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The matriculation ceremony took place at the 1000-Seater Lecture Theatre, Yelwa Campus, where students took the oath of allegiance, signifying their official induction into the university.
During his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba, welcomed the new students and emphasized the university’s core values of discipline, academic excellence, and moral integrity. He reminded them that their admission was a privilege that came with responsibilities.
He reiterated the university’s dress code policy, warning that students who fail to comply would be denied access to lecture halls. He stressed that ATBU upholds high moral standards and will not tolerate indecent dressing. On student conduct, the Vice-Chancellor issued a stern warning against cultism and drug abuse, describing them as destructive behaviors that have no place in the institution. He assured that any student found engaging in cult activities or illegal drug use would be expelled and handed over to law enforcement agencies. He encouraged students to focus on their studies, associate with positive influences, and make the most of their time at ATBU.
He also urged students to respect university facilities, follow due process when addressing complaints, and seek academic guidance from their level coordinators. He assured them that lecturers and administrative staff are available to support their academic journey.
The Vice-Chancellor noted a concern about the low level of educational attainment in ATBU’s host communities, revealing that the highest qualification in some areas remains the National Certificate in Education (NCE).
He called on the Bauchi State Government to provide scholarships to encourage higher education participation in these communities.
