Anambra Government Set To Reopen Schools Across The State
With gradual lifting of lockdown measures, civil servants and teachers were directed to return back to work in Anambra State even as students stay at home and the government said to be working hard for the peaceful reopening of the schools across the state.
In March 2020, schools throughout the country were closed to curb the rapid spread of COVID-19 just a few days before limits on lockdowns were imposed on the entire country.
Nevertheless, with the ease of the lockdown restrictions across the countries, especially in Europe, have reportedly reopened schools at least at basic rates without reporting in spike in new COVID-19 cases.
WHO’s Executive Director, Health and Emergency, Dr. Michael Ryan, said the disease might not go away soon and can still remain in the country like HIV, therefore people would have to live with it.
Anambra government would consider strict hygiene and physical distancing as a post-lockdown plan to reopen schools. We must do this as soon as possible to ensure students do not lose out.
On April 28, 2020, Gov. Willie Obiano, ordered teachers to return back to work while safety measures are being placed for parents to send their children back to school.
Ministry of Education official stated that the stakeholders were working on the roadmap for the schools, to secure reopening. In addition to other protective steps against the spread of the virus, the latest guidelines, according to the official, included holding morning and afternoon classes in overcrowded classrooms, and the mandatory use of PPE.
Confirming the development, the Information and Public Enlightenment Commissioner, Mr. C. Don Adinuba, said government will allow class shifts with some students attending morning classes while others can attend the afternoon shift to avoid close contact.
Mr. Adinuba said in his post-lockdown strategy, the government considered other measures, and the protection measures that would be placed in school system were to encourage teachers and students from contact or spreading the disease.
