ASUU Blames FG After Donating Hand Sanitizers To Ogun State

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has said that lack of the right investment in university education is one of the reasons why the nation does not have capacity to respond timely enough to problems.

ASUU disclosed this in a tweet on Saturday, after donating 1000 bottles (125ml) of hand sanitizers to the Ogun state government.

The National President of ASUU, Abiodun Ogunyemi, who led the delegation to Abeokuta, said that if the right investment was made in university education ,it would have translated to the production of scientists who would proffer timely solutions to the nation’s challenges.

“For instance, conscious and determined investment in university education at national and sub-national levels would give our country quality medical scientists, behavioural scientists, creative scholars and other creams of informed citizens who can respond intelligently,” he said.

Ogunyemi also said that governments should walk closely with intellectuals, particularly in the union for timely intervention in matters affecting the country.

“To achieve better results, we believe Nigerian governments at the federal and state levels need to work with public intellectuals and patriotic trade unions like ASUU.’’

Recall that ASUU has called an indefinite strike action over federal government’s failure to implement certain agreements, which includes respecting the autonomy of universities.

But the federal government has insisted that a unified payment model like the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System(IPPIS) was necessary to curb corruption.
