Ekiti pry, secondary schools, tertiary institutions begin phased resumption today 

The Ekiti State Government on Sunday said it was ready for a phased reopening of primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions in the state.
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Education, Dr Adebimpe Aderiye, who made the announcement, said state government was prepared for resumption on Monday of pupils in primary and secondary school.
While pupils in SSS2, Junior Secondary School 3 and Primary 6 are to resume on Monday, those in SSS1, JSS2, Primary 4 and 5 will resume from September 28. Those in JSS1 and Primary  1 to 3 are to resume on October 19, 2020.

Tertiary schools in the state may begin to reopen as from October 2 subject to their level of readiness and compliance with the established protocols.
Aderiye said, ”We are prepared and we have been going round the schools. We have provided infrared thermometers, veronica buckets, running grants and other necessary things so that they will be able to take off immediately. We have told them the seats should be arranged according to the COVID-19 protocols.

We have taken care of handling the population of the schools with our calendar, that is why we are doing a phased resumption. The classes opening on Monday are those in certificate classes that have to do their examinations. The JSS 3 and Primary 6 are resuming now to do their exit examinations so that they can transit.

She added, “Those in SSS1 do unified examination and the result is what they will count as continuous assessment for the West African Examination Council. If the examination is not done, it is going to affect them. That is why we are insisting on the Third Term while some states are cancelling it.”

The Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Femi Akinwumi, said last week that the board had trained over 2000 head teachers and their assistants as part of proactive steps to create and maintain COVID-19 free environment in the schools on resumption.
