The Kwara government has offered Kwara students returning home from tertiary institutions a 50% transportation discount ahead of the February 25 and March 11 elections, Team PLATO reliably gathered.
This was stated by Mansurat Amuda-kannike, spokesman for the Ministry of Tertiary Education, on Monday in Ilorin.
Afees Alabi, the commissioner, stated that the assistance would be monetised and transferred to the beneficiaries after verification.
The Nigeria Universities Commission ordered the closure of universities for three weeks, from February 22 to March 14.
“It is worth noting that this 50% transportation assistance comes just 12 hours after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration announced a free bus palliative for students at Unilorin and Kwara State Polytechnic, which begins on Monday, February 13,” the Kwara government statement explained.
It added, ”I appreciate the efforts of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration for considering students welfare with utmost priority. The 50 per cent subsidy was meant to augment transportation fares for students returning to Kwara.”
