The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, (FUOYE), has shut down the university indefinitely to forestall further breakdown of law and order in the school.
The management has also proscribed the Students’ Union Government indefinitely.
A statement signed by the management and released to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday night, said: “Rising from an emergency management meeting of this day where the management discussed and reviewed the foregoing unruly behaviour of the students which consequently led the escalating crisis resulting in the destruction of vehicles and burning of a police van etc, the university management resolved among others, as follows:
- That the university is shut down indefinitely with immediate effect.
- Students are therefore ordered to vacate the university premises on or before on Wednesday, Sept 11, 2019.
- The students union is hereby proscribed indefinitely.
.4. That we made bold to say that the students on campus in the university hostels have been having regular supply of power at designated time and supported by solar power system, and couldn’t have been part of that protest and that the university is not answerable to the issues or main cause of the protest which is epileptic power supply by the BEDC.
“That further details will be made known in due chase “

Subhanallah, which kind of Government do we have in Nigeria? See how they changed the whole story and put the blame on students 😠 Media only reported what was ordered to say by the people from above but it’s unfair 😢 what of the two students that died and the two injured students. No news on that because they covered it already and now putting the blame on students…. I wasn’t a student of the university nor was I there when the incident happened but my brother was there and in fact, his friend is one of the dead students. No matter what could have happened during the protest, the bodyguards(policemen) to the Governor’s wife shouldn’t have shot the gun. Why do we have tear gas, isn’t it to scare people away? It’s unfair 😭 and I’m writing with grief Cause I felt the pain of the two students. The governor’s wife is a Mother too now. We are all trying hard to get the video of when the policemen shot the gun and I bet you it’s gonna be another story after seeing the video by Nigerians. The best and simple thing the government know how to do is “giving money out to the parents” but can money buy their soul and body back? God will judge them right inshallah.
