Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has announced the appointment of Prof. Shaykh-Lukman Alade Jimoh as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU).This appointment follows a rigorous screening exercise conducted by the university’s governing council, in which Prof. Shaykh-Lukman emerged as the top candidate.Prof. Shaykh-Lukman, who has been serving as the Acting Vice Chancellor, previously held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor from 2020 to 2022.With decades of experience in academic administration and scholarship, he is recognized for his contributions to the field and comes highly recommended for the role.At 60, Prof. Shaykh-Lukman boasts numerous academic accolades, including being named Best Graduating Student of the Department of Religions at the University of Ilorin in 1988 and receiving a University Undergraduate Scholarship Award for 1987/1988.He is also a Fellow/member of several professional bodies, such as the Chartered Institute of Public Advocacy and Management and the Council of Experts for the International Centre on Contemporary Research in Islamic Sciences (United Kingdom). Prof. Shaykh-Lukman hails from Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.In related developments, Governor AbdulRazaq has approved the transmutation of the Kwara State College of Education in Ilorin into the University of Education, leveraging its logistical advantages for a smoother transition.This decision aligns with the Governor’s ongoing efforts to enhance the viability and relevance of the state’s educational institutions.The location decision follows the recent signing of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (Establishment) and Kwara State University of Education (Establishment) Bills, which officially establish a new teaching hospital and university of education in the state. The signing ceremony was held at the Government House in Ilorin, attended by notable figures including House of Assembly Speaker Rt Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, Majority Leader Hon.
