Lockdown: LASU to Commence Online Lectures Monday

Following the lockdown in Lagos State as well as other parts of the country, in a bid to contain the spread of the world’s pandemic coronavirus and in line with the directives of the Federal and Lagos State Government that all Schools including Tertiary Institutions should adopt use of online platform, the Lagos State University (LASU), has concluded plans to commence online lectures for all its Students.

The Institution in a statement on its twitter handle at the weekend, said the lectures will commence on Monday, 13th April, 2020.

According to the statement, the Institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun (SAN, NPOM), arrived at the decision to commence virtual class for the students across all levels and campuses in a meeting with leaders of the Student Union of the Institution.

The statement reads: “In line with the directive of the Governor and Visitor to Lagos State University, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, The Lagos State University (LASU) will on Mon, 13th April, 2020 commence virtual (online) classes for it’s students across all levels and campuses.

“The decision to commence the online classes was announced on Thursday, 9th April, 2020 by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun, SAN, NPOM, in a virtual meeting with leaders of the Students Union of the University.

“He informed that a mail containing personalized log-in details would soon be sent to each student through their registered email addresses and urged them to fully participate in the online classes by logging in to the Envivo platform using the details that will be sent to them

“According to Prof. Fagbohun, the Governor’s directive is to ensure minimal disruption to the academic calendar of the institution during the period of lockdown : “we resolved that despite the lockdown, all our students must he fully engaged with their academic work.”

“He urged the students leaders to immediately begin aggressive sensitization of students as no excuse would be entertained for non-participation.

“The Vice Chancellor further assured the students leaders of the University’s readiness to address whatever genuine challenges their members may face in the course of attending classes, or doing/submitting assignments.” The statement said.

Recall that it had earlier been reported that the Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu, unsure of when covid-19 will come to an end in the country, held a virtual conference meeting with all heads of Tertiary Institutions where he urged them to adopt use of online platform for lectures

The Lagos State University (LASU) however will be among Tertiary Institutions in the Country that is taking the lead in the adopting the directive.
