MANY UNILORIN ASPIRANTS MAY NOT GAIN ADMISSION THIS YEAR
By Balogun M.A.O (PLATO)✍🏿
…Hmmm, I know many will say that what does he mean by saying “Many Unilorin Aspirants may not gain admission this year”. You do not have to get it twisted because many will not still gain admission but only few. My article is not controversial, If you don’t want to go back this year again, Do what is right, If you don’t do what’s right, You’ll go back home.
Well, Those that know me very well are aware that all my article are always grounded on facts and proofs. Recently, I mentioned those things candidates should take cognizance of which ranges from UTME subjects combination, Post UTME et cetera… I said that UTME phase is gone as it’s just a transitory phase and that scoring high in UTME does not automatically guarantee admissions.
The position and views of candidates on POST UTME are; Is it not a simple test? What’s there in Post UTME? Do we need to prepare hard than UTME? Hence there is no need for much reading and would rather go online and start reading archaic and obsolete past Questions. I have said many times that the University of Ilorin has started preparing standard questions as at last year. Lest I forget, Last year, We had the cases of candidates who score 316 and end up scoring 38%, 306 and end up scoring 42% in the University’s Post UTME and more. You’ll begin to wonder if they were truly the one that did the JAMB examination or not. It’s quite alarming where we see candidates with high UTME score and are later sent home by the University’s Post UTME. Let me equally make it clear that the sole reason why University of Ilorin, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos and Obafemi Awolowo University amongst others will not stop Post UTME test is not because they doubt the validity of JAMB examination but because they need to pick the most qualified candidates out of thousands who still made it by hitting the minimum score.
For University of Ilorin, If you had score 280 and above in UTME, You’re still not safe. That’s why I said previously that high scores in UTME does not determine admission into University of Ilorin because Post UTME is a determinant because it’s strictly used. Last year, the Management of the University of Ilorin pegged the minimum Post UTME cut off to 50% because they needed to disqualify candidates at all cost. In fact, other means of disqualification was used which I’ll not mention. Candidates are fond of taking every process with levity and every process of Unilorin back to back is a hit.
This year, Do you know that the Post UTME minimum cut off mark may be raised to 60% depending on candidates performances? When I say this, I know what I’m saying, Sometimes we tend to measure the outcome of results with the expected or measure the expected with the outcome and many people may not understand. It’s not everything we’ll disclose. We’ve seen a lot of errors and mistakes made by candidates this year and it’s very laughable. University of Ilorin will soon tell you that any error automatically disqualify candidate, it means anything that is a mistake or error can disqualify you. This is the best way I decide to write now because I have seen a lot. For now, I drop my pen.
