OOU innovates, issues transcripts and certificates on convocation day 

Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, is set to make a significant change to its graduation procedures this year. Graduating students at the 34th convocation ceremony will receive not only their degrees but also their academic transcripts.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Ayodeji Agboola announced this during a press briefing on Thursday, ahead of the convocation scheduled to conclude on Friday, January 31, 2025. He confirmed that the university has made all necessary arrangements to ensure the timely distribution of transcripts and commemorative plaques to graduates during the ceremony.

A total of 6,209 undergraduate students are set to graduate, including 5,793 regular students and 416 part-time students. Additionally, 741 postgraduate students will receive diplomas and degrees, with 571 earning PGD/Master’s degrees and 170 receiving PhDs.

This year, the university saw a significant increase in First Class graduates, with 115 students achieving this distinction, representing a 16% increase compared to the previous session. Other graduating students include those with Second Class Upper (1,845), Second Class Lower (3,044), Third Class (688), and Pass grades (35). The medical program produced 66 unclassified graduates.

A highlight of the convocation will be a lecture by the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arch Sunny Echono, titled “TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, The Treasures, and The Future.”
Professor Agboola also highlighted the university’s recent achievements, including being named the “AI School of the Year” at the 2024 Data Science Nigeria Bootcamp, winning a $1,000 book prize, and two lecturers receiving a $60,000 Google Academic Research grant.

Aisha Aanuoluwapo Dauda from the Department of Economics, with a CGPA of 4.87, has been recognized as the best-graduating student, standing out among her peers.
