The National Universities Commission(NUC) has granted full accreditation status to the LL.B Law Programme of the Faculty of Law, Redeemer’s University. In a release by the NUC on Wednesday 15 March 2023, the cheery news was communicated to the University Management. In his reaction, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. O. B. Akinola thanked the Almighty God and the Prof. Anthony Enisan – led Management on the success of the accreditation exercise which held in November 2022. Upon assumption of office as the Dean of Law on August 2, 2021, Prof Akinola in partnership with the University Management and other stakeholders within and outside the Faculty of Law initiated several reforms in terms of infrastructural development, introduction of Clinical Legal Education components, recruitment of additional qualified academics and lots of research and collaboration initiatives. The Faculty of Law is renowned for its Online Bimonthly Faculty Lecture Series which has been bridging the gap between the gown and the town.
The periodic publication of Faculty Law Journal and the introduction of Departmental Journals among other publications endeared the regulators to the Faculty. Prof. Akinola is grateful to the Law students of RUN for their resilience and productivity in the Moot Court, Law Clinic programmes and other peer review initiatives and inter university competition. Experiential Learning component of Clinical Legal Education was introduced under the leadership of the Dean and it exposes the students on attachment to Law Firms to legal skills and Law Office Management. The affected students are in 300 Level, 400 Level and 500 Level.
The Faculty is blessed with eminent Professors such as Prof Olusegun Yerokun who served as the immediate past Dean and other past Deans who made tremendous contributions to the progress of the Faculty. In his further remarks, Prof. Akinola specially appreciated the teaching and non-teaching staff of the Faculty and especially the visiting Lecturers on Pro bono basis from the Bench and the Inner Bar.With this development, the Faculty intends to consolidate in the ongoing reforms and ensure it produce law graduates who can hold their own in the comity of Faculties of Law in Nigeria.
