Student Loan: FG sets March as takeoff date, explains delay in launch

The federal government has announced that the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund) portal will open in March for eligible students.

The Executive Secretary of NELFund, Akintunde Sawyerr, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, March 7, in Abuja urging eligible students to register to access the fund.

President Bola Tinubu, on June 12, 2023, signed the Access to Higher Education Bill into law to enable indigent students to access interest-free loans to pursue their education in any Nigerian tertiary institution.

The scheme was initially scheduled to start between September and October 2023.

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the timeline was revised to January.
