UNILORIN promotes 715 staff members … Olowoleni tasks new DRS, DDs, others to justify elevation

n its sustained effort at ensuring the consistent motivation of its workforce towards enhancing greater industrial harmony Land stimulating productivity, the management of the University of Ilorin has approved the promotion of 715 of its employees across different cadres.
The development was sequel to the conclusion of the 2022 promotion exercise conducted by the institution for eligible academic and non-teaching staff in various Faculties and units of the University.
A breakdown of the beneficiaries of the career responsibility. progression showed that 184 academic staff were elevated to various higher ranks of lecturership while a total of $31 non- teaching staff were also promoted. A further analysis of the beneficiaries showed that 363 senior non-teaching staff were elevated to the next level of their career while 168 of the beneficiaries came from the junior cadre.
Of the 184 academic staff promoted, 74 were elevated to the rank of Senior Lecturer across various academic departments while 85 of them were promoted to the status of Lecturer Las 21 of the lecturers became Lecturer II while four staff of the University Library were elevated to the rank of Librarian L
Also, the promotion exercise eventuated in the advancement of 40 of the non-teaching staff of the University to the penultimate pinnacle of their careers either as Deputy Registrars or Deputy Directors and their equivalent status in the Laboratory Technology Cadre. Seven staff members of the Registry Unit, who were previously Principal Assistant Registrars, were promoted to the exalted rank of Deputy Registrar while eight officers in other non-academic units of the University who were previously Assistant Directors were also elevated to the status of Deputy Director, which is the highest achievable rank by promotion. Also on the elevation list were six Senior Principal Chief Technologists and 10 Principal Chief Technologists

The Registrar of the University, Dr Fola M. Olowoleni, admonished the newly promoted staff to justify their promotion by showing more commitment to their duties and continuous loyalty to the system.
Dr Olowoleni, who gave the admonition last Wednesday (April 5, 2023) during the formal presentation of promotion letters to the new Deputy Registrars and Deputy Directors in her office, urged them not to rest on their ours as they get to the penultimate stage of their career.
The Registrar pointed out that being a level 14 officer of a prestigious institution like the University of Ilorin does not translate to relaxing on dury, absconding from work, or shielding junior staff, adding that rather it is a call for more dedication from the beneficiaries “because to whom much is given, much is expected
She appealed to them to justify their promotions by working harder than before, being responsible at work, being diligent at all times, and supporting the vision and mission of the university’s administration to make the University the best in the
country and one of the best in the world. Dr Olowoleni also admonished all the new senior staff of the institution to count themselves lucky because many dreamt of the post they now occupy but could not meet up either because of death, or health status, among others.

While encouraging the newly promoted officers to show the world that they are indeed better by far staff of the University, Dr Olowoleni urged them to make the Council and Management proud for considering them worthy of the elevation.
Among the newly elevated officers are Mary B. Olayemi, Deputy Registrar (Registrar’s Office); Sidique A. Rufai, Deputy Registrar (Academic Support Olusegun Dopamu, Deputy Registrar (Physical Sciences); Adelodun Ajao, Deputy Registrar (Academic Support Services EXR): Moses Opaleke, Deputy Registrar (DHR); T. K. Afolayan, Deputy Registrar(CODL) and Elizabeth Oshagbemi, Deputy Registrar (Senate).
The new Deputy Directors: include Yusuf Bolakale (COMSIT); Toyin Alabi (Internal Audit), Kolapo Abdulsalam (Internal Audit), Ibrahim Idris Alooma (Corporate Affairs); Kayode Salaudeen (Corporate Affairs); Tunde Saheed (Works): Ado Yahaya- Sheshe (Works); and Emmanuel Robert (Works).
Similarly, Mrs Faridah Sheriff of the Legal Affairs Unit of the University was promoted to the rank of Chief Legal Officer, while four staff of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, Mr Abubakar Imam, the Deputy Editor, UNILORIN BULLETIN the Protocol Officer to the Vice Chancellor, Mr Segun Alabi, as well as Mr Mubarak Oladosu and Mrs Haolat Temitope Folorunsho of the UNILORIN 89.3FM were promoted to the rank of Assistant Director (Information).
Speaking on the sideline of the event, the Station Manager, UNILORIN 89.3 FM. Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim, thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the entire management of the University for considering him and other beneficiaries worthy of being promoted.
He expressed joy that his services were recognised and rewarded with the promotion as he promised to work harder to justify the elevation.
While noting that promotion is not a right but a privilege, the ace broadcaster said that he would not take the elevation for granted as he would continue to serve as a source of motivation not only to his younger colleagues in the Better by far radio station but also across and beyond the University.
