UNILORIN SCREENS OVER 16,000 APPLICANTS IN 3 DAYS 

No fewer than 16, 097 admission seekers appeared for the 2024 Post-UTME screening of the University of Ilorin between last Thursday (August 29, 2024) and Saturday (August 31, 2024).The Director of the Computer-Based Centre (CBT), University of Ilorin, Prof. Kamil Rauf expressed delight over the seamless conduct of the screening exercise, attributing it to the adequate preparation put in place by the University management.

Prof. Rauf who stated this last Thursday (August 29, 2024) in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office, noted that the success recorded in the exercise was as a result of the huge material and human resources support given to the CBT Centre by the University management under Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.

A major highlight of the Post-UTME screening was the promptness with which the results of the screening exercise were released, a development that excited many of the candidates. Prof. Raufu attributed this to the high level of technological innovation put in place by the University management.

The Director further noted that the quality of the infrastructure at the CBT Centre impacted positively on internal examinations of the University such as departmental examinations, Institute of Education examinations, Centre for Open and Distance Learning Examination (CODL), remedial examinations and Post-UTME UTME screening.Prof. Rauf disclosed that the University of Ilorin also conducts police promotion examinations, pension service promotion examinations as well as examinations for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Nursing Council of Nigeria, and Agricultural Council of Nigeria, among others.Also speaking, the Manager of JKK, Mr Gafar Yusuf, noted that the backup power made sure there was no hitch whatsoever in the examination.

In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, the Deputy Director, Quality Assurance Unit, University of Ilorin, Mrs. Bilikisu I Giwa, noted that the biggest room in any organisation is the room for improvement, saying that her Unit has noted a number of ways by which the Post-UTME screening can be improved at the University.A parent, who accompanied his ward all the way from Port Harcourt, Mr Bashir Alao, said that his choice of UNILORIN is due to the fantastic academic standard of the University and the need for his ward to have a feel of Ilorin city through the University.

A candidate, Ibrahim Kamaldeen, who applied for Physiology and Anatomy, said that he hoped to move to Medicine and Surgery if chanced in 200 level.Another candidate, Daud AbdulRaheem Kehinde, who came for the screening from Lagos, said that having prepared for the exam, he didn’t find it difficult as he studied daily in preparation for the Post-UTME screening

Kehinde, who applied to study Political Science, said that he has always dreamt of being a student of the University of Ilorin, adding that this is his third attempt at getting into the institution.

Mr Gbadejo Qayyum, a 300 level student of Microbiology, who accompanied his brother Aalim Gbadejo, said that his brother chose UNILORIN because of many good things he has heard about the University through him and other sources.On his part, Miss Hamza Fatima from Abeokuta, who applied to study Medicine, said that she chose the University of Ilorin because of the history of the University, the news she has heard about the University, adding that the environment she encountered upon entering the University inspired her even more.

A 2008 alumna of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, who accompanied her ward to the Post-UTME examination, Mrs. Nimat Abdul, said that her ward was writing the exams because of the general quality of the University.

The trio of Ayatullah Daud, Kabirat Olohunlelesan and Oluwatoyin Halima, who also spoke with UNILORIN Bulletin, said that they chose the University of Ilorin because of the discipline as manifested in the dressing and appearance of the students.The Lagos-based Ayatullah Daud, who wants to study Computer Engineering, said he liked the morality and everything about UNILORIN.

On her part, Kabirat Olohunlelesan, who wants to study Nursing Science, said she was intimidated by the crowd that she saw waiting to write the examination. She noted that the mode of dressing in UNILORIN is unique because at JAMB centres, you tend to encounter indecent dressing.

She said, “Some people will dress mannerlessly like they have no parents but UNILORIN does not condone nonsense, some people dressed decently because they were coming to the University”. She added that she took interest in UNILORIN through her former teacher who was a Youth Corp member and an alumnus of University of Ilorin in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State. Oluwatoyin Halima, who applied to study Optometry, said she loves the University of Ilorin because all her elder siblings dreamt of studying at the University but did not succeed.

She also noted that her love for the institution stems from its ‘Better By Far’ slogan, saying that she also wanted to be better by far in life.

A 300 level student of Business Administration in the University of Ilorin, Barakat Opeyemi, said she made about N10, 000 naira on a very good market day selling pencils and keeping phones and bags for the Post-UTME candidates.
