UNILORIN WINS CONTINENTAL COMPETITION

The University of Ilorin has, again, affirmed its unparalleled status among its peers in Nigeria, particularly in the realm of legal education and training as it did very well at the Christ of Heyns All African Moot Court Competition hosted by @KNUSTGH, Kumasi, Ghana. At the competition held between September 3 and September 10, 2023, the UNILORIN team, which consisted of Miss Islamiat Oyindamola Kolawole and Miss Hauwa Tanimola Usman, gave a very good account of itself.

The UNILORIN team locked horns with the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in the first round. In the second round, the team squared up with the University of Fort Hare, South Africa. In the third round and fourth stage of the competition, which attracted the participation of 65 universities from across Africa, the UNILORIN team faced the University of Lusaka,  Zambia.

The performance of the team earned the University an invitation for participation in the regional rounds of the World Trade Moot Competition, which is to be hosted by the Kabarak University, Kenya, in 2024.

A member of the team, Miss Kolawole, who is a 400 Level student of the Faculty of Law, emerged as the 4th Best Oralist at the competition. Speaking to UNILORIN BULLETIN, Miss Kolawole thanked the authorities of the University for the privilege given to her team to feature in the competition.

She thanked Dr Azubuike Onuora-Oguno, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, who led the team to the competition.

Miss Kolawole described the competition as an eye-opening event, saying that their participation afforded her and her colleague the opportunity of displaying the knowledge and skills inculcated in them by the University of Ilorin.
