The Management of Osun State University has suspended the online continuous assessment till further notice.
This was revealed in the Vice Chancellor’s statement made available to Olofofo Uniosun by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Ademola Adesoji.
The statement reads in part; “Dear All,
Recall that I reached out to you, earlier today on the challenges being faced by our students regarding the ongoing continuous assessments. Thereafter, I summoned a meeting of Principal officers and the leadership of the Directorate of the IMTC. We met in the VC’s office from 11am to 3:15pm, to discuss extensively on the challenges and the way forward.
“The main problem was identified as the uncontrollable traffic on the server as a result of students hitting it at the same time because of anxiety to write the tests. Secondly, a number of the students who refused to activate their institutional email addresses earlier, rushed to do so at the last minute, and struggled to connect. These put pressure on the server, slugging it, and eventually making it ineffective. Let me state that, this is not an unusual occurrence even in climes with the best of technologies. For us, it’s part of the learning curve which we will surmount.
“A decision was reached to suspend the ongoing continuous assessment until further notice. However, learning and interactions will continue for all students.
“Let me reiterate here that no bona fide student shall be disadvantaged, as the tests are not meant to be punitive. We therefore, encourage students who are yet to register to seize the opportunity of this lull to do so in earnest.
“To hollistically address the challenge, I have just given approval for the procurement of a dedicated server for learning and assessment. This should be ready within the next one week. The week after that will be dedicated to capacity building and strengthening of users (staff and students).
‘The IMTC and the administration shall continue to work round the clock to ensure success of the online platform. We will also continue to update all stakeholders from time to time. I urge us all to keep calm as we work even harder to serving you better.
“Meanwhile, we appreciate the patience and cooperation of staff, students, parents, guardians and our teeming stakeholders as we strive to adapt to the new normal.
Best wishes always, Labo”
