The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said that it may call off its strike action if the federal government releases the salaries of its members who were not on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
ASUU tweeted about this on Tuesday.
Recall that the federal government had insisted it would not pay the salaries of academic staff who were not captured on IPPIS; adding that the payment model was part of global best practices.
As the directive was implemented, ASUU embarked on a warning and later an indefinite strike action(on March 23) pending when FG would agree to its terms.
The union noted that since its members in the Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Department had started producing hand sanitizers and other health materials to aid the fight against covid-19, the federal government would consider releasing their salaries.
ASUU’s National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, said the union was aware everyone was having a hard time due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and as such, it would be open to dialogue to resolve the conflict the the government.
But he stressed the union would only dialogue with federal government when salaries of its members withheld were paid, adding that the move would quicken the resolution of the crisis
