The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has decried irregularities in the payment of salary of its members through the Integrated Payment and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
The union said the platform unilaterally stopped the payment of occupational hazard allowance to its members.
It directed its members to begin an indefinite strike over the lapses observed in the new payroll system as well as Federal Government’s failure to implement the 2018 Memorandum of Action (MoA) it signed with the union.
The union said the strike would begin when tertiary institutions reopen after the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement by its President, Ibeji Nwokoma, NAAT said the strike would be “total, comprehensive and indefinite”.
The union said a notice of the pending strike had been served on the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.
It said the letter was also copied to Education Minister Adamu Adamu, Accountant General of the Federation Idris Ahmed, National Universities Commission’s (NUC’s) Executive Secretary Abubakar Rasheed and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Ayuba Wabba.
