ZAMFARA GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES NEW GOVERNING COUNCILS FOR STATE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS 

In a bid to strengthen the administration of tertiary education in Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal has officially inaugurated new governing councils and boards for six state-owned institutions.

The newly constituted councils will oversee Zamfara State University, Talata Mafara; Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara; College of Education, Maru; College of Nursing and Midwifery, Gusau; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe; and the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Bakura.According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, this restructuring aligns with recommendations from visitation panels that assessed the state of tertiary institutions.

The move is part of broader efforts to reform the education sector and enhance institutional management.Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Lawal emphasized that his administration remains committed to reversing the setbacks in education and restoring academic excellence. “This marks a significant milestone in our quest to reposition tertiary education in Zamfara. With the expertise and commitment of these distinguished appointees, we anticipate a transformative era for our institutions,” he stated.

The governor outlined key interventions his administration has undertaken, including extensive renovation of schools, resolution of outstanding WAEC and NECO examination fees, and settlement of salary and pension arrears for educators.He further stressed the importance of strategic partnerships and effective governance in addressing financial and infrastructural challenges.

“We have carefully selected individuals with vast experience in the education sector. Their role is crucial in ensuring sustainable growth and improved academic standards,” he added.Governor Lawal urged the appointees to approach their responsibilities with diligence, assuring them of the state government’s support in achieving lasting reforms.
